Women who think they’ve got the beat lined up to show off their music skills Monday. CBS 2’s Vince Gerasole spoke with some hopefuls who want to tour with superstar Beyonc Knowles. Women saxophonists, women trumpeters and women guitarists were just some of the hundreds of musicians who showed up for the chance to back up Beyonc. The ladies-only auditions, held at 2239 S. Michigan, were not just about the music. Outside the audition site, musicians demonstrated their hip-shaking dance moves to match the R&B diva.

“You get down there it’s good, but the butterflies start going, “ said drummer Dina Micelli. Some drove from nearby cities and showed up hours early for the 12 p.m. audition start in hopes of making a two-minute impression on Beyonc’s musical directors. Others said in a field dominated by men, it was good to see the spotlight placed on women. “Win or lose — get the part or don’t get the part — I love to play, “ said guitarist and Detroit resident Emily Rogers. “I’ll keep playing if I jam with Beyonc or not.”
