Sony Pictures has once again changed the release date for The Pink Panther. The Shawn Levy-directed comedy remake, starring Steve Martin, Kevin Kline, Beyonce Knowles and Jean Reno, will now open on February 10, 2006. The studio has had good luck with the Valentine’s Day date, as both Hitch and 50 First Dates debuted there. Distribution president Rory Bruer tells Variety that the move will give the studio, which inherited the project from MGM, a chance to develop its marketing effort. “We’ve seen the film and we’re really excited,” he said. “We have an opportunity to really have a good, fresh start of the ‘Pink Panther’ franchise. We want the time to put together a proper campaign for it.” Having already been shuffled into, out of, and back into the summer, the film was most recently scheduled for August 5. It now faces Universal’s Curious George and New Line’s Just Friends on the new date.
