There seems to be a little behind-the-scenes kitten fighting over whose smiling face will adorn the September cover of Vanity Fair. Intimates of both Beyonce Knowles and Paris Hilton are saying their girls have landed the top spot. The mag’s August release date coincides with the release of Beyonce’s “Pink Panther” remake, co-starring Steve Martin and Kevin Kline. But Hilton’s seemingly unstoppable popularity has recently been bolstered by her engagement to boyfriend Paris Latsis. Hilton loyalists are saying that Beyonce fell from grace with editor Graydon Carter because advance buzz on the film has been flat. Others are sniping that the mercurial Hilton is so unlikely to follow through with the marriage that she would be a risky choice. The official adjudication? A rep for Vanity Fair tells me: ‘We are shooting Beyonce for the cover next week.’
