Private Brands Inc, a subsidiary of Tarrant Apparel Group, has signed an exclusive license agreement with House of Dereon, the branded apparel line founded by pop star Beyonce Knowles and her mother, Tina Knowles. The young contemporary women’s line, which is expected to launch in time for holiday delivery at better specialty stores worldwide, will feature ready-to-wear, casual sportswear, and denim offerings. Barry Aved, president and CEO of Tarrant Apparel Group, said: “House of Dereon adds a very exciting new dimension to our growing portfolio of private brands, which includes American Rag, Cie, Alain Weitz large sizes, and Gear 7 brands.” He added that Beyonce will have an active role in supporting and marketing the brand. The companies Beyond Productions and Kids Headquarters will provide the infrastructure for licensing and brand management to House of Dereon.
Officials announced today that Destiny’s Child, the world’s best-selling female pop vocal group will perform as a headliner during the 2005 Essence Music Festival. Beyonc, Kelly and Michelle, known for their chart topping hits such as: Lose My Breath, Survivor and Bootylicious, will wow the crowd with an electrifying concert performance on Saturday, July 2. More than 40 other stellar artists will be announced in coming weeks. The Essence Music Festival, set for July 1, 2, and 3 in New Orleans, will be one of the highlights of a year-long celebration of ESSENCE magazine’s 35th birthday next year.
Beyonce Knowles’ dog Munchie has been declared America’s Most Eligible Pet. The venerable Munchie has had this honour bestowed upon it by Animal Fair magazine which featured the pair on the cover of its winter issue, reports The Sun. An excited Wendy Diamond, editorial director of the magazine exclaimed: “We’ve already been overloaded with calls from people trying to set their dogs up with Munchie!” Commenting on her beloved Munchie, Beyonce told the magazine: “He’ll climb right up to your face and give you a kiss, and then he’ll lie under your neck and give you a hug.”
Hip hop singer Beyonce Knowles is reportedly all set to star in the movie version of the Broadway musical Dreamgirls. According to ratethemusic.com, after proving her mettle as an actress in Austin Powers sequel Goldmember and the upcoming Pink Panther remake, producers are convinced that Knowles has talent as an actress and want her to star in the movie, about a singing trio from Chicago, loosely based on real life stars The Supremes. She says: “There was this big thing in a magazine saying I was mad at Angelina Jolie because she came number one in a sexiest female poll. “I’m not mad that I’m number five. I’m mad I’m listed at all. Every woman is sexy because she can give birth to a baby. That’s sexy in itself.”
Us Weekly reports that while vacationing on the island of Anguilla in the Caribbean on December 28th, the couple attended Denzel Washington’s 50th birthday party at Trattoria Tramonto. The couple “looked very content,” according to a witness. “Just very happy.” Later, Beyonce cooled off with a dip in the water. “Jay just stood there,” the onlooker added, “admiring his girl in the water. They were constantly smiling at each other!”
